We recently took a journey from our desert basecamp in Phoenix to the breathtaking mountains of Colorado Springs. Our mission? To capture a story that speaks to the very essence of human resilience and the critical need for mental health support.
Teaming up with one of our valued partners, we dove into the life of a retired EMT. This individual, whose bravery was unquestionable, faced an invisible battle with his mental health. Suicidal ideation loomed heavy, and he reached out to 988 for help—a number meant to offer a lifeline in moments of crisis. Yet, his call went unanswered, a stark reminder of the gaps that exist in our support systems. But here's the incredible part—he survived. Despite the system's shortcomings, he found the strength to persevere.
