4 Types of Video Marketing You Can Use For Your Brand

Are you utilizing the power of video in your business? Does your business use social media videos to bring awareness and engagement to your brand?

There are a lot of different types of video marketing options out there. Creating engaging social media videos for your business is a key element to brand presence and exposure.

If your business hasn’t used video before, researching the types of video styles can be a bit overwhelming. There are so many types of video marketing choices to choose from. Each one has a place and you should have a video marketing strategy to help determine what your business NEEDS vs. WANTS. The types of video media or styles can be broken down into general themes, but sometimes they have some crossover and you might see a mix of multiple video styles combined into one video. This isn’t going to be a full list of the different types of video marketing options - that would take too long to write and overwhelm you even more. Instead we want to highlight the 4 types of video marketing assets our video production company enjoys producing for our clients the most:

  1. The “About Me Video” / Manifesto / Company Culture

  2. Brand Story Video

  3. The “Explainer Video” (Live Action)

  4. Social Media Video Clips

We’ll dive a little deeper into the types of video media options below with examples to help you understand which video marketing strategy you might be looking for.

About Me Video / Manifesto

This is the most common video deliverable we produce and one of our favorite types of video marketing assets to create. We also believe it’s one of the most important for a brand to have. The Manifesto is essentially your “why” and dives into the heart, soul, and DNA of your business. When making these films we use a Brand Questionnaire to help us (and you) identify aspects about your business that we can highlight to bring out your why. These videos can utilize talking head video (interviews) overlaid with b roll (relevant footage), text on screen, voiceover, or a mix of all to tell the story. Here are some examples of “About Me / Manifesto'' videos we’ve produced:

Brand Story Video

This type of video is used for supporting different avenues of your brand’s story. They help bring loyalty to your following by connecting on a more personal level. An example is from a video campaign we did with Tito’s Handmade Vodka, although the brand sells spirits the video series we created had nothing to do with Vodka. We told stories of 5 individuals and their rescue dogs, the importance of rescuing, and how it can make the world a better place. The purpose of the video campaign was to spread word on their dog program; Vodka For Dog People and connect with an audience who believes and supports the stories. Here are some brand storytelling examples:

Explainer Video - Live Action

The explainer video is exactly what it sounds like; it teaches the viewer something by... explaining it. The explainer video can be done in multiple ways from animation, talking heads, text, voiceover or a mix of all of them. For this post we’ll be focusing on live action (real footage) and not animation. For example, we worked on a video campaign for Travel Oregon and we were tasked with creating, executing, and distributing a 3 part film series to drive local and non-locals to utilize recreational and non-recreational activities and experiences that Oregon has to offer. The goal of the campaign was to educate the viewers on selected topics and activities showcased within the series. We used a mix of talking head interviews and voiceover to drive the storytelling. Here are some explainer video examples:

Social Media Video Clips

Typically when we produce a video that’s over 1 minute long we will provide our clients with shorter versions that are mobile friendly; social media video clips. These are really fun videos for social media ranging in length from 5 seconds up to 45 seconds long. There can be multiple reasons for creating video content for social media ; driving traffic to the main deliverable, teasers, advertising creative, campaign support, etc. Sometimes these are visuals only with no direct storyline and other times we include text on screen, voiceover, or interviews to tell the story. The options are endless. Here are some example videos to show how you can utilize social media videos for business:

As you can tell, there is no right or wrong way of going about these types of video projects. Everyone does things differently and that’s the unique thing about the creative process and industry.
